The Third 90 Days
This is where the rubber meets the road:
1. Develop and strengthen relationships with other bloggers, especially the leaders in your niche. Comment regularly. Show lots of link-love, then let them know you linked to one of their posts using trackbacks/backlinks.
2. Mix it up a little in the tempests that occasionally hit the blogosphere. Take a stand. Nothing attracts traffic like controversy.
…you’ll lose your audience and credibility if you don’t try to stay close to the primary subject niche of your blog
3. Keep working the PR/Alexa/Technorati stats, but ESPECIALLY your search-engine results pages (where you place in the search results for a given keyword or phrase). Stay relentless, keep promoting through your forums and social networking.
4. Try to be a first-mover – look to break some news, announce an initiative, take a leadership position.
5. Don’t overdo the paid posts. You’ll be tempted to take any opportunity because it really is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. But, you’ll lose your audience and credibility if you don’t try to stay close to the primary subject niche of your blog. Trust me, I’m still learning the limits on one of my blogs.
