Another suggestion for the paid post industry

I was inspired to continue my 5 suggestions for the paid post industry with one more based on an post at Copyblogger.
Michael Stelzner wrote a solid article about how to use white papers to attract opportunity. I believe the strategy he lays out would be very effective in consumer-generated advertising, especially for the company that wants to get a big bang for their advertising dollar.
Specifically, by providing an excerpt, a “tease” really, for bloggers to quote or link to, the advertisers immediately increases his reach while simultaneously improving the quality of his traffic. The visitors that click through his links will be responding directly to the excerpt and will be prepared to take some kind of action when they get to the site. For those advertisers’ looking for some kind of action (a registration, a sale, etc.) from their advertising dollars, this is a great way to measure the effectiveness of paid-posts.
For instance, PPP recently offered a large number of opportunities to post about The Police. The Police have released a new compilation CD to celebrate their 30-yr anniversary. The last opportunity I wrote about involved posting a 30-second video commercial along with my personal thoughts about the CD (I’d received the CD free several weeks earlier as a result of a previous review).
Can you spot the problem with this opportunity and the resulting post?
I only discussed those songs I liked, so this post will only resonate with people that like the same songs. Know what would be better?
Song samples. Every major online music retailer uses this strategy, and it could have been used in a paid post by simply providing links to the samples at the online music store of the advertiser’s choice. The advertiser might have even been able to score some coop marketing dollars from the retailer in exchange for driving traffic to their specific online music store. Their samples would receive a very wide distribution, and the direct results in terms of revenue generated from the paid post could be measured.
This would have been the most effective way to utilize this paid post.
