Entrepreneur Magazine: Pay the Piper?
With all of the controversial coverage of paid blogging brokers in "traditional" media, I was surprised to read a very balanced article in Entrepreneur magazine, usually one of the most pimp-tastic magazines on the planet. I wrote earlier about their coverage of BWAMs, but this article was directly relevant to the larger debate.
And, it was Reported, as opposed to editorialized. Go figure. Catherine Seda at Entrepreneur manages to write a balanced here’s-the-good-and-the-bad article, while Forbes mangles it.
My guess is that the Forbes reporter got paid more to do a worse job. After all it’s FORBES. Just a guess though.
I am wondering about one thing, though - in the article, ReviewMe and Blogsvertise get links, while SponsoredReviews.com and PPP do not. Wonder how that happened? For me, it’s because I have affiliate links for the brokers I link to, but they didn’t. Weird.

Thanks, I try! “Paid blog reviews” is an interesting topic and I can see both sides which is probably why I took a more objective approach to it. But…when asked to write about something like pay-per-click, I’m compelled to infuse my recommendations because I’ve seen too many advertisers waste their money on some of the search engines’ features.
Um, what’s the definition of “pimp-tastic?”

Ha ha. No, keep pimp-tastic. It’s funnier than pimp-licious. Maybe ask your readers to decide?
Headlines: Well, of course they’re “pimp-tastic” Tim! Would you buy the magazine if that story headline was “Some business ideas you should think about.” Yawn. People want more time and more money. They also want the quick, cheap and/or easy solution. So, headlines (i.e. article titles, e-mail subject lines, blog posts, press release titles) that offer a solution to people’s pain are attention-grabbers.
Hmm…now I’m going to read the Forbes article you reference above. Thanks again.
P.S. My editor thought your use of the word “pimp-tastic” was funny, too.
