PayPerPost & Argus

Let’s get back to what we’re all here for, making money through the use of paid posts.

Ted Murphy at PPP wrote a rather extensive post on the PPP blog about Argus, the next-generation of PPP’s marketplace. I say "next-generation" rather than "next iteration" because Argus is truly revolutionary and disruptive, as Ted alludes to in his post. I was a member of a focus group that previewed Argus in slightly more than mock-up form, but I am handcuffed by an NDA with regard to revealing anything.

It has been totally worth it, however, as I’ve had a several-month’s head start to get my blogs prepared for the coming change.

So, while I can’t reveal anything, here is what Ted revealed:

  1. More extensive "Postie" profiles so advertisers will have more information about you and your blog.
  2. Advertisers will be able to see actual traffic data surrounding visits, pageviews, click throughs, traffic sources, etc. from a PPP-designed analytics package, for those bloggers that install the PPP Tools javascript.
  3. More accurate and expanded advertiser reporting, also as a result of PPP Tools (I saw some of this and all I can tell you is I was stunned and told Ted and Pete Wright over lunch, "You’ve changed everything") that will provide ROI stats that every advertiser will pay top-dollar to see.
  4. PPP Tools will also unlock an "exciting new blog monetization option" (There was one monetization option none of us were too thrilled about because of the potential for abuse - I hope this isn’t what he’s talking about).

So, it’s going to be up to bloggers to decide how little or how much information they provide PPP and an advertiser. There is some angst expressed with each of these posts that I’m having a hard time understanding. We’re being given MONTHS to prepare for this change. There seems to be a feeling amongst "smaller" bloggers that Argus will be a bad thing.

Only if you let it.

None of us are entitled to make money blogging. No one is twisting our arms to write posts and take money from PPP’s advertisers. I am about as "small" as a blogger can get. I still have a couple blogspot blogs because those are my ranked blogs. My hosted-domain blogs are so new they aren’t yet ranked. I choose t see Argus as an opportunity. I clearly see that if I do the hard work now, if I write great content and build traffic and build strong relationships, I can be "big enough" to make good money once Argus is in place. We’re being given the opportunity to get ahead of the game NOW, and we need to take it.

The paid-post world is going to change in a big way come November. By releasing tidbits and hints here and there, PPP is not only building buzz (and yes, Advertisers, if you aren’t on-board now, you won’t be able to avoid getting on board after November - in fact, I’d say that if you do any internet marketing at all your management will DEMAND you go to PPP/Argus), they are giving bloggers every opportunity to get out in front of the coming change.

If you choose not to, remember that it’s your CHOICE. Some of us are choosing to bust our asses to build great blogs, and we’re not going to feel sorry for those that sit back with an entitlement mentality. At the end of the day, we’re all competing for the same dollars, and it’s great when we can do so in a friendly and cooperative environment. But with Argus, if I work harder than you, I will make more money than you.

And that’s MY choice.

[…] According to Ted’s blog about Argus, the name is significant in that it represents an all-seeing, all-knowing mythological creature. I think it means "Arrington’s Really Gonna Shit" when he sees it. Trust me. […]
