The paid-post debate goes from personal to nasty

What an idiot. Arrington over at Techcrunch slammed PPP again, this time accusing the folks over there of racism because some of them dressed up as indians during a scavenger hunt.
Must be time for Arrington’s quarterly poke at PPP. I’m pretty sure he has a reminder set in his Outlook calendar. And this was all he could come up with.
No, I’m not linking to it, not that it will make any difference because it’s easy enough to find and this blog is small enough to not matter. Just a matter of principle, it was a defamatory piece of linkbait designed to inflame passions for nothing more than a little extra traffic on a slow news day and the glory of Michael Arrington. Hey, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and Arrington’s made a rock-solid case for my opinion to be that he’s a douchebag. I’d say that was my nasty, personal shot, but I’m sure he’s been called worse. After all, he was an attorney.
The personal shot taken by Arrington in Toronto, calling Ted Murphy "The most evil person in the room", led Ted to question Arrington’s professionalism - a valid question, by the way, given the nature of the event (a professional conference) and the personal nature of the attack. It’s one thing to say PPP is evil, another to call a man evil in front of his colleagues.
And now he elevates the passions by lowering himself to this. I mean, we have to pay attention to Arrington because he has about a gazillion subscribers, the vast majority of which he was handed on a silver platter. But, at some point the folks that have given Techcrunch "feature" status as a default RSS subscription (like myAOL) are going to have to decide if they want to be associated with this behavior. Slander and defamation shouldn’t be taken lightly.

As for the tools commenters trying to use this as some sign of PPP’s death knell, they literally have NO IDEA what they’re talking about. Zero. Jesus, people, (oh wait a minute, I might have just offended some christians…), try to remember these immortal words from Abraham Lincoln:
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."
According to Ted’s blog about Argus, the name is significant in that it represents an all-seeing, all-knowing mythological creature. I think it means "Arrington’s Really Gonna Shit" when he sees it. Trust me.
I fully expect a visit when the ego-search Google Alert picks up this post.

UPDATE, 9/7/07, 8:20 pm EDT:
At least one person was thinking constructively, pointing out that if Arrington and anyone else is so concerned about the plight of Native Americans, they ought to cut a check to a deserving charity that helps these people out. Azdana, an active Postie, provided the following info:
If anyone would like to share this link with Arrington, please feel free. American Relief Association is a charity that helps people in the four corners (AZ, UT, NM and CO) region of the country. Please point out the picture gallery, including the arrival of donated food staples such as pasta and canned spaghetti sauce.
http://americanreliefassociation.com/index.htmlAccording Charity Navigators, the president of this charity makes an annual salary of 35,900 and the charity is currently running at a deficit. I don’t know much about them, but I know that they won’t be able to help anyone if they can’t get out of a negative cash situation.
A couple of years ago, I helped a local charity with their Christmas toy drive for children on a reservation in AZ. I was told that toys with batteries would be useless because batteries aren’t commonly available and that plug-in electrical toys (like PS3) wouldn’t be good because the kids didn’t have any place to plug them in.
Like I said, everyone, please feel free to spread this information in any way you see fit.
Edited because I nearly forgot this part: American Relief Association has a donation button on their site, they accept donations through PayPal.
Well said and well done.

Wake up. You guys are like those annoying friends who try to sell amway.
Oooh you got me.
Anonymous comments bother you? BS blogs don’t? Ha ha nice standards. If it makes you feel better I’m not being paid to have this opinion. That makes my little anonymous comments the most credible words on this blog. Boo ya!
