carnival of injusticeJust another time out to point you to Suni, who is hosting the Carnival of Injustice, a grassroots blog effort to raise awareness about he issue of racism, specifically about the Jena 6 that I wrote about last week.

The effort to raise awareness is working. Just last night and this morning, I saw the first mention of this in mainstream media, with this morning’s story coming on the Today show.

Keep it going, folks!

I am sickened by the false outrage at the treatment of the “Jena 6″. To equate three nooses hanging from a tree to a six on one beating is absurd. These boys should be punished severely. How would any one of you bleeding hearts react had this been your child? Say you get a phone call from the school saying that 6 boys had beaten your son into unconsciousness. Would you be so quick to defend them? I don’t think so! Shame on you all. You make a mockery of the real civil rights movement in defending these punks.

From Color of Change:

“Later the same weekend, a black student was beaten up by white students at a party. The next day, black students at a convenience store were threatened by a young white man with a shotgun. They wrestled the gun from him and ran away. While no charges were filed against the white man, the students were arrested for the theft of the gun.2

That Monday at school, a white student, who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses, taunted the black student who was beaten up at the off-campus party and allegedly called several black students “nigger.” After lunch, he was knocked down, punched and kicked by black students. He was taken to the hospital but was released and was well enough to go to a social event that evening. ”

It wasn’t just nooses. And if the boy was beaten so bad, how did he attend the social event? Attempted second degree murder?

are you kidding? how can you even begin to compare hanging something in a tree to beating someone up? i can’t believe that any educated person would support this! if i follow your reasoning, then the white boys that beat up the black boy at the party that same weekend needs your support too! no, anyone that commits an assault, black or white needs to be in jail.if you don’t agree with that then you are a racist yourself.

Are you people so ignorant that you refuse to even read the entire story? How do YOU compare white students beating up a black student with no punishment when the black students are charged with attempted murder? How do YOU compare a white man threatening black students with a SHOTGUN and the black students get charged with stealing the gun?

It’s ludicrous to continue to compare the nooses to the beating. Compare the beating to the beating. Compare the beating to the threatening by shotgun. Quit trying to ignore the parts of the story that don’t fit your view of the world. It’s the INJUSTICE that is the issue - if you charge the black students, charge the white students.

Any crime committed by anyone should be punished appropriately.

You can’t say “well they did this first” and expect to justify illegal actions. If you beat up someone who called you names … YOU are the one that is guilty of assault.

IF you are one of six that gang up and beat on one person … YOU are guilty of conspiracy and assault and might be charged with a hate crime yourself.

You cannot justify illegal actions while downplaying six boys beating a single boy who was knocked unconscious from the beating. You just can’t.

Again, shame on you.
