How To Make Stupid Blogging Mistakes

Man, I just made a doozy of a mistake. If you’re wondering how big “doozy” is, let me give you this ranking system:
- Suicidal
- Huge
- Doozy
- Aw Shit
- Retarded
- Ooops
So yeah, it’s kinda big, but nothing that can’t be recovered.
I started a site about 6 weeks ago, or so, where I am posting only videos about poker. I wanted a few weeks to add content and play with the format before “releasing” the site to the general public, so I went to the “Privacy” tab in my Wordpress dashboard and clicked “Block search engines…”. It seemed reasonable, I wasn’t sure I wanted to even do a micro-niche poker blog.
Then, I sent out questions to some smart people, who gave me some good feedback, and I polished a few things and made my announcement.
I still don’t have any search engine traffic.
I checked the source code on the home page and found a “noindex/nofollow” meta tag. I started playing with settings in my All-in-One SEO plugin, but it had no effect. On the way to work this morning, while the wind was buffeting my car all over the Buckman Bridge, it hit me out of the blue - that freaking “Block…” setting.
All cleaned up, now.
Lesson Learned: Quit the FBS (Fancy-Blogging-Syndrome).
