What’s the big deal?
What if you were an advertiser that wanted to reach people doing searches for the New York Yankees? They won’t be seeing your ad, will they? They’ll see the ad associated with the highest-priced keyword associated with their search history, and not the term they just searched for.
Is someone at Google stupid enough to think simply presenting the highest-priced keyword possible is the best way to maximize revenue? A basic tenet of marketing is that you want the right message appearing to the right person at the right time.
That’s what you get when you let engineers build your business model.
